Just hitting the street now is a track titled "For Mods Only" from Chico's 1968 Impulse album THE DEALER, which is included on the latest offering from Thievery Coporation- Sounds From the Verve Hi-Fi. June '01 saw the release of Chico's debut recording for Koch Jazz (www.kochentertainment.com), FORESTSTORN. The album features Chico's young "Euphoria" group with Cary DeNigris on guitar, Paul Ramsey on bass, Erik Lawrence on alto and soprano sax, and Evan Schwam on tenor sax, as well as Special Guest Appearances from Former Bandmembers Arthur Blythe, Steve Turre and his wife Akua Dixon, Eric Person, former Spin Doctors guitarist Eric Schenkman (a former student of Chico's), Blues Traveler front man John Popper (also a former student of Chico's), and Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones. Setting up the album in May '01 was Chico being featured on the hour long NPR Jazz Profiles series, hosted by Nancy Wilson. FORESTSTORN has received rave reviews from around the world, debuted at #32 on the Gavin Jazz Chart and peaked at #13 on the Yellow Dog Jazz Chart, and November saw MAJOR features on Chico in Down Beat, Jazz Times and Modern Drummer.
