July 1, 2001 Joyous Shout! is HAPPY to announce a VERY special evening in NYC on July 15th as Legendary Jazz Drummer and bandleader Chico Hamilton and his young "Euphoria" group with Cary DeNigris on guitar, Paul Ramsey on bass, Erik Lawrence on alto and soprano sax, and Evan Schwam on tenor sax, perform in the Main Room at the Knitting Factory, 74 Leonard Street, NYC 10012 Tel. 212.219.2006, with one set at 8 PM which will be cybercast on the internet. This performance is an Album Release Show, following the June 12th release of Chico's debut recording for Koch Jazz (www.kochentertainment.com), FORESTSTORN. The new album features Chico's young "Euphoria" group as well as Special Guest Appearances from Former Bandmembers Arthur Blythe, Steve Turre and his wife Akua Dixon, Eric Person, former Spin Doctors guitarist Eric Schenkman (a student of Chico's), Blues Traveler front man John Popper (also a student of Chico's), and Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones. Following the Knitting Factory shows will be a string of shows for Jazz Forum in Westchester, at Hartley Park in Mt. Vernon 7/31, Waterfront Park in Dobbs Ferry 8/1, Kingsland Point Park in Sleepy Hollow 8/2, and Recreation Pier in Yonkers 8/3, and then out to Eastern Long Island on 8/4 for a performance on the First Annual Montauk Jazz Festival at Montauk Downs. And a VERY SPECIAL evening is in store on 8/17 at the Lincoln Center Out-Of-Doors Festival in the North Plaza with an 80th Birthday Celebration for Chico. The program is entitled "My Funny Valentine- A Tribute to Chico Hamilton", with an amazing list of guest appearances to be announced shortly. A variety of live performances are in the works around Chico's 80th Birth-day, which comes 9/21!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHICO!! Chico will be performing again in South America, but for the first time in Brazil, this coming October on the XVI Free Jazz Festival with shows in both Rio and Sao Paulo.
