If you'd like to send along YOUR best wishes to Chico please click <here and I will forward your messages along to him. Thanks for your concerns and prayers!!

Joyous Shout! is proud to announce that the always HIP and ever MOD Legendary Jazz Drummer & Bandleader Foreststorn CHICO Hamilton HITS on 9/21/02 with his new release on Koch Jazz, "THOUGHTS OF..." . A SWING, SWING, SWINGING affair featuring Chico and his young "Euphoria" group- with Cary DeNigris on guitar, Paul Ramsey on bass, Evan Schwam on tenor sax, Erik Lawrence on alto and soprano sax, and Karolina Strassmeyer on flute, alto and soprano sax, as well as special guest spots from several LUMINARIES from the world of jazz guitar and former band members, Joe Beck, Larry Coryell and Rodney Jones, "THOUGHTS OF..." brilliantly captures THAT swinging ambiance so abundant in Chico's live performances and SO lacking in so many of today's contemporary jazz recordings. "THOUGHTS OF..." features new original compositions from Chico, and several SWINGING arrangements of SURPRISING contemporary covers: that CLASSIC "Conquistadors" beat on a cover of Joe Claussell's recent dance floor stomper, "Je Ka Jo", and the "Killer Joe" groove of the album- closer, a cover of the MODFATHER Paul Weller's "Bull-Rush". A worthy follow-up to "FORESTSTORN", Chico's 2001 debut on Koch Jazz, "THOUGHTS OF..." will prove itself to be ONE OF THE jazz recordings of 2002, and amplifies the sentiments Robin Tolleson as declared in his November 2001 Down Beat feature on Chico, "Still the Man", "It's clear that Chico Hamilton fancies himself a 'Mod'."

The main promotional push behind Chico's "THOUGHTS OF..." will be focused online thru a Level 2 promotion on amazon.com, with online promotions and publicity being spearheaded by Suzan Jenkins of Open Sky Jazz in collaboration with Lois Gilbert of Jazzcorner.com. Soon to be launched is ChicoHamiltondrums.com hosted by Jazzcorner.com, and there will be many banner exchanges and online contests to publicize Chico's new album. Suzan can be reached via email at: Muzikmusette@aol.com. We are VERY pleased to have Suzan and Lois aboard, in what perhaps is the first promotional compaign for a MAJOR jazz artist to be focused almost EXCLUSIVELY online!! For servicing on "THOUGHTS OF..." please contact Naomi Yoshii yoshii@kochint.com at Koch Jazz.

Also due early Fall is the first release to see the light of day from the Groove Master project on the Soulfeast label: GROOVE MASTER VOL. 1: "SOULFEAST PRESENTS THE CHICO HAMILTON REMIX PROJECT", featuring remixes from Still Phil, MKL vs. Soy Sos, DJ Smash, and Soulfeast- Joaquin "Joe" Claussell and Brian Bacchus. Over the years, Chico has had a series of dance floor successes, including his signature song "Conquistadors" from his 60's Impulse album "EL CHICO", and the Brazilian influenced song "Strut" from Chico's 1979 outing on Elektra "NOMAD", which became so successful on the Northern Soul Scene in the U.K. that it had its own dance!! Earlier this year a track titled "For Mods Only" from Chico's 1968 Impulse album "THE DEALER", was included on the latest offering from Thievery Corporation- "SOUNDS FROM THE VERVE HI-FI". GROOVE MASTER VOL. 1 will appear on 12" EP and CD.
