Master Foreststorn "Chico" Hamilton as
he HITS with four breathtakingly remarkable new
releases
on Joyous Shout! in 2006 in celebration
of his 85th birthday!
Always HIP and
ever the consummate MODERNIST , Chico brings
us a swinging affair on "Juniflip", with Chico's "Euphoria" group
and special guest appearances from: legendary Love front-man Arthur
Lee on "What’s Your Story Morning
Glory?"; criminally under-rated vocalist (and successful
actor) Bill Henderson on two tracks
including the Benny Goodman classic "Don’t
Be That Way" which receives a balladic treatment;
and former Hamilton band members
trombonist George Bohanon and bass
trombonist Jimmy Cheatham augmenting Chico’s working "Euphoria" group
on five tracks- including the Jo Jones swing
of "Mr. Hamilton"; the chamber-like opening (reminiscent
of Chico’s group of the 50’s)
of another swinger on "Little Bit of This, Little
Bit of That"; and Chico’s signature "Conquistadors" groove
on "Yeh Yeh (for Carlos Santana)".
Chico's "Euphoria" group
includes stalwarts Cary DeNigris on
guitar, Paul Ramsey on bass, along with Evan
Schwam on flute, tenor & soprano saxes, Karolina
Strassmayer on flute, alto & soprano saxes, Andrew
Hadro on flute, alto & baritone saxes, and Jeremy
Carlstedt on percussion.
Each of the guest artists lends their unique and distinct
voice to the different journey that is "Juniflip". Thru
every track, Chico invites the
listener along on a SINGULAR, SINGING and SWINGING adventure. Chico was
awarded the NEA Jazz Master Fellowship in
2004, and "Juniflip" illustrates
why Foreststorn "Chico" Hamilton is a JAZZ
MASTER and Still THE
Man for EVERY
GENERATION!!
This release is pressed up in the CD
w/ Mini-LP format, and is the FIRST album
ever produced in this format in the USA!!
